Dean’s Charge to the Committee
Nasser Momayezi, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences
In 2010, Dean Momayezi charged the DDIC to take a holistic approach to diversity. He enlisted the committee to define diversity in broad ways and to educate faculty in the College of Arts and Sciences about diversity. He tasked us to do the following:
- Explain why diversity is important to the College of Arts and Sciences, in addition to devising techniques for how to implement a more diverse College of A&S
- Explain how diversity benefits/impacts the mission of the College of A&S Examine policies, procedures, and programs in order to identify extant obstacles to diversity
- Identify ways to remove unnecessary obstacles to diversity
- Examine course offerings/programs to evaluate whether our offerings are appealing to diverse groups
- Identify the type(s) of diversity in which we are most lacking in the College
